Ballast = Control gear for LED - dimmable
An electronic ballast (EB) is known from the fluorescent tubes / energy saving lamps technology and had the task of ignition of the discharge lamps. That was yesterday.
Today, we generally understand this to mean an upstream device for operating LEDs. However, a closer distinction must be made here:
1.LED control gear as constant current source/driver for currents of e.g. 350mA/700mA etc. (mostly LED recessed spots, LED panels)
2.LED control gear as constant voltage power supply with DC voltage values of 12V/24V etc. (mostly LED strips/LED modules)
3.LED ballast as transformer with 12V AC voltage for operation of e.g. 12V LED retrofit lamps (GU5.3, GU4, ..)
This depends on the type of LED technology used.
If the ballast LED should be dimmable, so we offer various control options such as DALI, 1-10V, touch dimming, Triac, but wireless solutions such as Casambi.
